The Marriage Office is a private celebrant service. We are not a government registry office.

- information required for the Notice of Intended Marriage and related legal declarations
- witness details and interpreter details where required
- booking, payment, and invoice details
- messages you send us through our booking form, contact form, or email
- basic website and device information such as browser type, pages visited, and referral data

We collect information directly from you when you:
- complete the booking form
- send us a contact form or email
- prepare and send your Notice of Intended Marriage
- upload or show us supporting documents
- meet with us in person or by video where appropriate
We may also receive information from:
- NOIMeasy, if you choose to use it
- a witness, interpreter, or support person involved in your paperwork
- government registries or authorities where the law requires it or you ask us to assist
Why We Collect Information
We collect personal information so we can:
- answer your questions
- assess whether we can lawfully marry you
- prepare, check, and manage marriage paperwork
- arrange meetings and your short legal marriage appointment
- confirm a date, time, and place once your paperwork is received and accepted
- take payment and manage bookings
- lodge documents with the relevant Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages and comply with legal record-keeping duties
- comply with the Marriage Act 1961 (Cth), the Marriage Regulations 2017 (Cth), and other applicable laws
- improve how this website and our service work
Why Some Information Is Mandatory
Some information is required by law. If you do not provide the information or documents needed for us to identify you, receive your Notice of Intended Marriage, or confirm there is no legal impediment, we may not be able to proceed with your marriage.
How We Share Information
We only share personal information where it is reasonably necessary for the service or required by law. This may include:
- the authorised celebrant conducting your marriage
- staff or contractors helping us administer bookings and paperwork
- the relevant Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages
- payment processors and secure service providers
- government agencies or regulators where the law requires it
- NOIMeasy, if you choose to use that service and ask it to send information on
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Storage and Security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information, including:
- limiting access to people who need it to do their work
- using secure digital systems and passwords
- storing paper records securely
- returning original personal documents as soon as practicable after they are no longer needed for the marriage process
No online system is completely risk-free, but we take privacy and document security seriously.
How Long We Keep Information
We keep marriage records and related information for as long as the law requires and for as long as reasonably needed to run the service, deal with questions, resolve disputes, and meet tax and accounting obligations.
Access and Correction
You can ask for access to the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it if it is wrong or out of date. Email paperwork@themarriageoffice.com and we will respond within a reasonable time.
Website Use
We use website data to understand how people find and use the site, improve the booking journey, and keep the website working properly. We do not use the site for behavioural advertising.
