Who We Are
The Marriage Office is operated by Withers XYZ Pty Ltd as trustee for the Snow Withers Trust.
We are a private celebrant service. We are not a government registry office.
You can contact us at paperwork@themarriageoffice.com.
Using This Website
By using this website or booking our service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site or our service.
What This Service Is
The Marriage Office provides a low-cost, registry-style marriage service for people who want a simple legal marriage appointment.
Our service is focused on:
- the legal marriage paperwork
- guidance in plain language
- a short legal marriage ceremony with the required words and signatures
What This Service Is Not
This service is not:
- a government registry service
- a full wedding ceremony service
- an elopement planning service
- a custom event production service
If you want a full celebrant-led wedding ceremony, see Josh Withers. If you want an elopement, see Elopement Collective. If you need another office in the network, see Australian Marriage Offices.
Booking Process
The normal process is:
- You click the booking link and complete the booking form.
- You pay the booking fee.
- You prepare your Notice of Intended Marriage.
- You have the Notice of Intended Marriage witnessed by an authorised witness.
- You send us the paperwork and supporting documents.
- Once the paperwork is received and accepted, we confirm an available date, time, and place.
A booking request does not guarantee a marriage date, time, or place.
Your date, time, and place depend on:
- when we receive your completed paperwork
- whether the legal requirements have been met
- our availability
Legal Requirements
You are responsible for making sure the information and documents you provide are accurate, complete, and truthful.
Our service is subject to Australian marriage law, including the:
- Marriage Act 1961 (Cth)
- Marriage Regulations 2017 (Cth)
- Code of Practice for Marriage Celebrants
- Guidelines on the Marriage Act 1961 for authorised celebrants
Important legal points include:
- the Notice of Intended Marriage usually must be received at least one calendar month before the marriage date
- the celebrant must physically meet each party separately before the marriage
- the marriage requires two witnesses who are at least 18 years old
- the required legal words and certificates still have to be completed, even for a very simple service
If there is any difference between information on this website and the law, the law and official guidance prevail.
Short Notice Marriages
If you want to get married in less than one month, we cannot simply waive the notice period. A shorter time is only possible in limited circumstances if a prescribed authority approves it under the Marriage Regulations 2017.
Fees and Payments
Fees are shown during the booking process or otherwise provided to you in writing.
By paying a booking fee, you authorise us to begin administrative work on your matter. This may include reviewing your enquiry, preparing for document handling, and reserving provisional capacity in our calendar.
Any refund, credit, or transfer will depend on:
- the stage your matter has reached
- work already completed
- third-party costs already incurred
- your rights under Australian Consumer Law
Your Responsibilities
You agree to:
- give us true and complete information
- provide documents when requested
- follow lawful directions about paperwork and identification
- treat our team respectfully
- tell us promptly if anything changes in your circumstances or paperwork
When We May Refuse or Stop a Booking
We may refuse, pause, or cancel a booking if:
- legal requirements are not met
- the information provided appears false, misleading, incomplete, or inconsistent
- required documents are not provided
- there are safety, abuse, or conduct concerns
- the requested service is outside the scope of this paperwork-only offering
